Looking for a home made recipe for the old fashion green tomato ketchup

2 gal. green tomatoes, sliced
2 lg. onions, sliced
1/4 lb. mustard seed
3 to 4 tsp. of the following: Allspice, cloves, ground mustard, and ground ginger 2 tbsp. black pepper
2 tsp. celery seed
1 3/4 c. brown sugar

Place sliced tomatoes and onions in layers with salt between layers in a stainless steel kettle. Let stand 24 hours, then drain. Add rest of ingredients and cover with vinegar and boil for 2 hours. Strain through a sieve or put in blender. Bottle for use.

    3kg (1 1/2lb)green tomatoes
    1.5kg onions
    1 tablespoon black pepper
    1 tablespoon mustard
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
    4 cups vinegar
    1 cup honey
    Slice tomatoes and onions. Place in a large saucepan with pepper, mustard, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour vinegar over all and cook for 4 hours over very low heat, stirring occasionally. Carefully puree mixture in a blender; strain through a mesh strainer. Return to pan and bring to the boil, add honey. Immediately fill sterilised jars, leaving 3mm head space. Place lids on the jars and process in a boiling water bath in a for 5 minutes. Store unopened product in a cool dry place up to one year. Refrigerate after opening.


    1 peck green tomatoes
    6 onions
    6 green bell peppers (mix some red if desired)
    1 c. salt

    Cut in small pieces. Sprinkle cup of salt over tomatoes and cover with cold water, let stand over night. Drain off salt water and cover with clear water and boil for 10 minutes. Drain off water and add 4 pounds sugar and enough vinegar to cover. Add pickle spices in cloth and let boil 30 minutes. Put in jars and seal.

    Good luck! I believe this is the old fashion kind.
