Question by pusspot: What is the best way to home can grape and cherry tomatoes?
We have loads of small grape and cherry tomatoes from our garden. We don’t want them to go to waste and would like to can them. Does anyone have a good process for canning these small sizes of tomatoes?
Ok, Becca M…I’ve never heard of tomato preserves. There is a recipe in Sure Jell for them? If so, you have my vote because I’ll have to try it just to find out how they taste…

  1. i find that they don’t can very well. i freeze them and use them in the winter for cooking.

  2. pressure cooker.

  3. It depends on what you want to do with them. Use recipes for regular sized tomatoes, make sauce, or can with onions etc… Just make sure you process them in a boiling water bath for about 10 minutes.

  4. Get Mr. Wages citric acid and half pint canning jars, caps and lids. Blanch the tomatoes in boiling water until the skins break. Pull them out and remove skins. Put a half teaspoon of citric acid in the bottom of canning jar. Put cap and lid on and hand tighten. Place the jars in pot of water and bring to a boil for 20 to 30 minutes. remove jars with a canning puller/jar tongs. set aside and let cool. Listen for the jars to make a popping sound and they’re sealed. Store in a cool place such as a pantry or basement. Use when needed. Enjoy!
