Question by myany: What’s a good sandwich to have with homemade tomato soup?
I’m making Panera’s creamy tomato soup this week, and need to come up with a good sandwich to have with it. I don’t want to make just a grilled cheese or something typical, but something out of the ordinary and a little more creative, yet something that doesn’t include obscure ingredients that would need designated shopping time; I’m not going to the grocery store this week.

Grilled Cheese, duh. But do it right! Use sourdough bread, a dlice or two each of havarti adn colby cheeses, real butter, and a nonstick griddle or sandwich press. Serve w/ a dill pickle spear. If you like meat w/ your meal, add some thin-sliced deli ham or turkey to the sancwich and grill.

  17. Turkey, mustard or mayo, lettuce, dill pickles on toasted wheat bread. Simple but good.

  18. PORTUGUESE SANDWICH

    4 Sandwich rolls
    2 tablespoons honey mustard
    4 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/4 pound baked ham, thinly sliced
1/4 pound roast pork, thinly sliced
1/4 pound provolone cheese, thinly sliced
    12 sweet pickle slices
1 tablespoon butter (melted to room temperature)

Slice the bread in half, and spread each side with honey mustard and mayonnaise. Next, divide the ham, pork, cheese, and pickles evenly on each roll.
Heat your panini maker or sandwich press, and butter each side of the bread. Press down and grill the sandwiches until the cheese is melted and the bread is browned, which takes about 10 minutes. If you don’t have a panini maker, you can heat the sandwiches in the oven at 350 degrees on a cookie sheet for about 15 minutes. Use a spatula to press down on the sandwiches and flatten them, which will produce the same effect as a panini maker.

  22. Grilled Cheese!

  23. I don’t know why people only read the main question and not read the details. Your looking for something OTHER than the obvious grilled cheese. I think a homemade tomato soup would go great with a grilled squash/zucchini sandwich with a slice or two of provolone on herb or cheese focaccia bread.

  24. Try a grilled tuna sandwich. Mix tuna with mayo, butter bread as usual for making grilled cheese, add cheese on both sides and add sliced dill pickles, and tuna, then grill…

***** you could add dill relish to the tuna instead of using sliced dill pickles.*****
