  1. Thanks for showing this and sharing the link to the old books. I stayed up
    until 5am reading. Lol

  2. There’s a good collection of old cookbooks online that you can read for
free. That’s how I found this. A lot of the real old books aren’t very
helpful though because the recipes are so vague. Almost all the books that
were written promised to fix that problem but they rarely did. I’ll put a
link in the description box for you.

  3. your timing is awesome! I am waiting for the FedEx guy to deliver my
Excalibur. I will be trying this TODAY. Can’t wait for more of your videos.
I have been married for 22 years and a mom almost as long and yet I still
learn so much I should have been doing for years. Thanks for all your help
in raising my family in a better healthy way. :)

  4. I am still waiting for my dehydrator and pressure canner. I can only water
bath can at the moment. I also have to get a camera so I can answer some of
these VR contests. Can someone tell me how to make a video on here and how
to upload it? Do I need a special camera? My little Sanyo makes videos, but
I don’t know how to upload them. Any help appreciated.

  5. Totally Awesome!

  6. i wonder how it would work with no sugar

  7. Yay! I love this! Your videos are awesome, such useful unique information.
    Thank you!

  8. Wonderful video as always I learn so much from you. Thank you and God Bless

  9. Thanks for replying. I am waiting for several yards of tulle to arrive in
the mail. I’ll make the bags as you suggest and will let you know how it
    works.

  10. Wow! That’s interesting. I’ll give this a try, but I’m still waiting for
    some decent ripe tomatoes.

  11. What a kool idea! Them olde timers were smart. They knew how to survive.
Would they not be surprised and may happy to know we are using some of
their ideas. And I bet they would turn there nose up at some of our ways.
Thanks for sharin. I can’t wait for you to share another idea out of that
    book. Thanks

  12. Sounds good, let us know how it turns out.

  13. It’s amazing how many misconceptions we have about the way they ate long
ago and how things have changed. They used to eat what we think of as lunch
for breakfast, their lunch was our dinner and for dinner they ate lightly
like our breakfast. That could be one of the reasons they didn’t have
weight problems like we do today. They weren’t going to bed shortly after a
    heavy meal.

  14. This is a great idea. I’m new to dehydrating and I’ve tried a lot of things
this year. I’ve made tomato powder, dried mushroom, dried green onions,
etc…. I love this kind of video. I now know how to dry things, but need
recipes using them or other ideas like this one. There is only so much
    tomato powder I need, lol.

  15. I love this idea. Can’t wait to try it. I can tell you that my granny used
to tell me about how her mother canned/dehydrated and YES, they used a
whole bunch of sugar! I think they put sugar and/or pork on everything
    short of the dog!

  16. I’ll definitely be giving this a try. Thanks!

  17. Just one more reason why I’m thankful I found your channel here…what a
treasure you are. Now that I got my tomatoes protected from the mocking
birds maybe I’ll have enough to give this a try : )

  18. You’d end up with just regular dried tomatoes. I’ve dehydrated tomatoes
before and ground them into a powder. Works great.

  19. How much sugar do you think that you could get away with using instead of 3
cups to 4 lbs? Would you drop it by a cup?

  20. I never heard of such thing…. I just might have to try these. Thank you:)

  21. I want to try some with brown sugar next time. They’re good with the white
sugar but I bet they’ll be even more like dates with the brown.

  22. they were inventive back then, in the kitchen as well as other places. They
probably needed some figs or dates for a recipe and didn’t have access to
any, so they tried to invent some with tomatos, and voila, they succeeded
    to a certain degree.

  23. If they didn’t see them, I don’t think anyone would guess they are tomatoes.

  24. That’s funny…lol…short of the dog.

  25. I would love to know how they came up with some of these ideas! I’m going
to have to try to find these cookbooks. Thanks for sharing!

  26. I don’t really understand if you want a tomato-based sauce or not…I hope this helps

    1 lb. spaghetti
    1/2 c. butter
    1/2 c. olive oil
    4 cloves garlic, minced
    1/4 c. finely chopped parsley
    1/2 tsp. dried basil
    1/2 tsp. dried oregano
    1/2 tsp. salt
    Dash black pepper
    Grated Parmesan cheese

Cook spaghetti according to package directions. Melt butter in heavy saucepan; add oil and heat. Add minced garlic and saute until lightly browned. Add remaining ingredients except for fresh grated Parmesan cheese. Drain spaghetti well, return to pot. Add sauce. Toss lightly. Serve with fresh grated Parmesan cheese sprinkled on top.
