Question by ctrygirl_98926: Stuffed peppers without tomato sauce???
I love stuffed peppers but all the recipes I know call for tomato sauce. I have a friend allergic to tomatoes and would like to know if anybody has an idea for a substitution for the tomato sauce. Thanks

  3. If you like creamed soups, you can use anyone one of the Campbells soups. 1 c.soup & 1/3 c. milk or water. If not creamed soup, use another kind that will compliment your & your friends tastes with the same ratio. 1c soup, 1/3 c. water. (~_~)

  4. Use chicken broth or top it with a little cheese.

  5. Sure you can. You can make a bur blanc sauce ( butter sauce) , or my favorite is making a good rice dressing and then stuffing it into peppers that you have charded the outside to make them softer. You can then just top it with mozz., broil, and eat. Good luck!

  6. I have seen similar to stuffed peppers, plenty of times meatloaf served in the diners with a brown gravy.

  7. there is no substitute, but…. you can cook them already mixed with cream of mushroom soup. i assume your talking about a mixture of rice and hamburger to stuff the pepper. do what you normallly do before stuffing he pepper, but cook up a can of cream of mushroom, (using half the normal full can of water), and mix it it up good and then fill the peppers. hope u like it..

  8. You could try cooking the rice with chicken stock mixed with a packet of taco seasoning instead of the water and use pepper jack or monterey jack cheese mixed with the cooked rice before you stuff the peppers to make it creamy.

  9. no sauce and its still yummy!!

    Sausage Stuffed Peppers
    1/2 pound ground sausage
    1 cup onions
    1/2 cup green peppers
    1/2 cup chopped celery
    1 1/2 cup cooked rice
1/4 cup chopped scallions (green parts only)
4 medium red or yellow bell peppers
4 tablespoons dried fine bread crumbs
    4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
    salt, pepper, parsley to taste
Slice peppers in half and remove seeds. In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the sausage, about 3 minutes. Add the onions, peppers and celery. Season with salt and pepper. Saute for 4 to 5 minutes, until the vegetables are soft. Add the rice and mix well. Cook for about 3 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in the green onions and a sprinkling of parsley. Season the bell peppers with salt and pepper. Spoon the mixture into the bell peppers.
In a mixing bowl, combine the bread crumbs and cheese. Season with salt and pepper (to taste) and mix well. Sprinkle the crust over each pepper. Place the peppers in a shallow pan and add just enough water to cover the bottom. Bake in a 400 degree F oven for 30 minutes, or until tops are crusty and brown. Serve hot.
