Question by Zoe Caldera: Yellow Pear Tomato Recipes?
We grew a yellow pear tomato plant in our yard, and now their fully grown ripe, and we have TONS! I’m not sure what to use them for other than salad. Does anyone know any recipes?

They can be used in anything, but I prefer them as is, in a salad, as a side for another meal, even in sammies

You could preseve them if you have a lot like Yellow Pear Tomato Preserves
8 cups yellow pear tomatoes
1 lemon
3 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons gingerroot or 4 tablespoons thinly sliced candied ginger
Directions:
1 Wash& dry tomatoes.
2 Cut a thin slice from blossom end and press out seeds and discard.
3 Combine tomatoes, sugar& salt, simmer until sugar is dissolved.
4 Boil for about 40 minutes.
5 Add thinly sliced lemon and minced or sliced ginger.
6 Boil about 10 minutes longer.
7 Pour into hot jars and seal at once.

    2 tablespoons sherry vinegar or red wine vinegar
    1 tablespoon minced shallot
    1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
    1 1/2 cups yellow pear tomatoes, halved
    1 1/2 cups orange cherry tomatoes, halved
    1 1/2 cups red cherry tomatoes, halved
    4 large fresh basil leaves, cut into slender ribbons

    Directions

    To make the vinaigrette, in a small bowl, combine the vinegar and shallot and let stand for 15 minutes. Add the olive oil, salt and pepper and whisk until well blended.

    In a large serving or salad bowl, toss together all the tomatoes. Pour the vinaigrette over the tomatoes, add the basil shreds and toss gently to mix well and coat evenly. Serve immediately.

  2. You can do anything with yellow pear tomatoes that you can do with other tomatoes. Put them on sandwiches, eat them like apples, make tomato soup, make marinara sauce, have sliced tomatoes with your scrambled eggs for breakfast, make salsa, put some in stew, roast them in the oven and sprinkle with basil and olive oil for a good side dish…Really, anything you can do with tomatoes.
