I bought a ripe tomato at the store and when I cut into it, it was green where the seeds were. Is it still good?

a lot of tomatoes have a green center piece thing if you mean the juices and everything is green.. i wouldnt eat it

  1. It doesn’t sound like it was totally ripe yet, as long as it’s not moldy it sounds like it is ok. Tomatoes get super soft and get black or white mold when they go bad usually.

  2. Sometimes hot house tomatoes are green on the inside around the seeds. I don’t know why, but they aren’t bad though.

  3. Some varieties do that.

    If you mean, “is it safe to eat”, the answer is yes.

    If you mean, “is it good to eat”, the answer is, “Criminey, lady, if you bought it in a store, odds are against you.” Heck, some stores even refrigerate tomatoes. That’s a no-no. The flavor turns off permanently if their temperature drops below about 60F. They get mealy if you do that, too.

    You can get vine-ripened tomatoes at roadside markets this time of year. Why would anyone but those hard things at the store, when you can get *real* tomatoes? The kind that are round, not the beefsteak kind, but the ones with all the gel. The gel is where the flavor is at, not the meat….
