I believe this is the recipe your looking for! It’s not a carrot cake, but this recipe has the taste of a “spice” cake. Kinda taste like a carrot cake. You will enjoy this recipe.

    Tomato Soup Cake Recipe
    1 Cup Sugar
    2 Tablespoons Baking Powder
    1-3/4 Cups Flour
    1/2 Teaspoon Cloves
    1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
    1 egg
    1 teaspoon cinnamon
    1 cup walnuts
    1/2 cup butter
    1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
    1 can tomato soup
    1 cup dates or raisins
In a large bowl, add the sugar, butter and egg and mix well. Add the rest of the dry ingredients, except for the baking soda. and mix well. Now, add the baking soda and the soup and blend in with wooden spoon. Add the nuts, dates and raisins and mix lightly. Bake in a greased 10×10 or similar size square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for about 1 hour. When cool, frost with a cream cheese and confectioners sugar blend. You can adjust the amount of sugar to your tastes.

    1/2 cup shortening
    1 cup sugar
1 (10.75 ounce) can condensed tomato soup, undiluted
    1 egg
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    Dash salt
    1 cup shredded carrots
    1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1/2 cup raisins or dried currants (optional)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
    3 cups confectioners’ sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 tablespoon milk
    Chopped walnuts

In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add soup and egg; mix well. Combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; beat into creamed mixture. Stir in the carrots, walnuts and raisins or currants if desired. Pour into a greased 10-in. fluted tube pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 45-50 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing to a wire rack to cool completely.
In another mixing bowl, combine the first four frosting ingredients; beat until smooth. Frost cake; top with walnuts if desired.

  4. I’ve never heard of one using tomato paste. Tomato soup cake is well known then. It is like a spice cake and you could probably put some shredded carrot in to makt it a carrot cake.
