Question by mousey: How to disguise the taste of VEGETABLE OIL in my cabbage soup!?
The first step in the cabbage soup recipe I’m following is to heat up onions and garlic in olive oil. I didn’t have enough olive oil left so I had to use vegetable oil instead. Now I am close to being done with the soup but the vegetable oil taste is there and does not taste very good.
There is 1 last step left, the add Italian stewed tomatoes to the pot – do you think this might camouflage the veggie oil? If not how can I do so?
Thanks!!

vegetable oil is almost tasteless
that being said, you shouldn’t have used enough to make a difference

After you add the stewed tomatoes, I doubt you will taste the veg oil. If you see a lot of the oil before you add the tomatoes, you can drain it off.
Somehow I don’t think it is the vegetable oil that you are tasting. Olive oil has a stronger taste, regular vegetable oil is almost tasteless. The tomatoes may change the taste, but I would suggest adding some additional seasonings to mask whatever it is you are tasting.
