Question by bosing215: How many green tomatoes does it take to make 5 pounds?
My mom is making piccalilli and the recipe calls for 5 pounds of green tomatoes. Any help would be appreciated.

    Depends on the size of tomato.
    It still works out to be 5 pounds worth, that’s why it says it that way!

    I guess you dont have a scale. See if you have a brown paper bag. They have numbers on the bottom. A lunch bag may be a number 3 or 5. This denotes how much weight can fit in the bag.in pounds. Fill the bag and it will get you preety close to the actual weight. Tomatoes are different sizes, so without a scale this is best answer I could offer you.

    since tomatoes will vary in size and shape…just guesstimate. Unless you want to be exact then use a scale…whether it is a kitchen or bathroom scale.
