Question by John T: Why are my tomatoes not turing red?
I am growing tomatgoes. There are many on the vines, have been there for a few weeks, but are not turning red. This happened last year as well. They never turned red. Why?

Did you let them stay on the vine long enough?Are you watering enough?

hmm thats strange. tomatoes don’t usually ripen until almost the middle of August. If they are big enough, take them off the vine and put them in your kitchen window to ripen. Do you use fertilizer? try NOT using stuff like miracle gro, it has chemicals in it that can come through when eating the tomato, try all natural fertilizer. and i am wondering is your tree in a sunny area? tomatoes need lots of water and needs to be in lots of sunlight. hope this helps!
they probably went bad, didnt get enough water, didnt get enough sunlight, or its not a good soil for growin tomates. Hope I could help

Hot temperature has deterred ripening in many areas, probably yours, too?The red color of tomatoes won’t form when temperatures are above 85 F.
Sometimes a bumper crop of tomatoes may also be the reason that the tomatoes are having a hard time ripening. Heavy fruit set can work against gardeners. Ripening numerous fruit takes a lot of energy & tends to delay the whole crop turning red.
Picking some of the large green ones will help the other tomatoes left on the vine ripen faster.
Plants that are actively growing & have a lot of vegetation while developing fruit may ripen slowly. Cutting back on the amount of water, & holding back on fertilizing helps with this.
Make sure they’re getting enough sun. If it’s too shady, they won’t ripen.
Cooler temperatures will help your fruit to ripen because “the red tomato pigments, lycopene and carotene, are not produced above 85 degrees F nor lycopene below 50 degrees F” *.

If you live in the UK, John then I would say you just need some more sun to ripen the tomatoes…but strange last year was the same.
All the tomato plants on our allotment got only to green stage this year because the whole plants got blight. Signs of this are brown blotches on leaves and stems. If your plants have this, then, cut off your vines and bring them indoors to ripen. Don’t compost your plants, but put in council green waste.
Blight can spread to and from potatoes.
Pinch out the side shoots of the vines and this helps the fruit to ripe faster good luck.
just fry them, Put in hot greased skillet, roll in cornmeal i salt to taste. Next yr plant earlier. Now i want some green fried tomatoes lol
