Question by lukelmnt: How can I set lights to turn on and off automatically every 12 hours?
I’m wiring some lights in my room to grow tomatoes, and I need them to cycle on and off every 12 hours. I’m not always able to be home at the right times, so is there a way that I can wire something with them that will let me set it to 12 hour cycles?
Any input is appreciated!

You can get a timer at most house ware stores that allow you to set a given period of time. You could start at noon and shut off at midnight. I use them on lamps when I go away.

  1. oh no tomatoes and fridges a big no no.many a great tomato ruined by refridgeration.im sampling my 28 varieties at the moment,i think im going to be in tomato heaven for the next 2 months.
no tomatoes have been harmed by refrigeration during this pronouncement.

  2. Migardener(Luke) just did a taste test with the Jap. Bk Trifele which means truffle and is from russian I believe, and its a “small pear shaped”, he also didn’t like it . I had heard its very good and am planning next years crop, I want the best tasting so Im leaning towar Bk Prince. Yours is hugh, very pretty inside like the Bk Pineapple, its all confusing. thanks for the response.

  3. I think this is actually the japanese black truffle – this first tomato was unusually large, the ones since are larger than cherry tomatoes, but not as large as salad tomatoes…

I haven’t tried cooking with them, but I think if they were picked when they were still mostly green, they would be excellent to cook with.

I can relate to the muddy taste, although I would say its more smokey.

  4. I take it that was not the Japanese Bk Trifle, yours is more a beef steak type.
1- Have you tried cooking with them?
2- I heard that some black tomatoes have a ‘muddy’ taste, what about this one ? sweet? acid?Fruity?
    thanks

  5. well hey! your in first still! just thought you should know :) you can enter 9 more tomatoes. also, thats a very beautiful tomato and had the bug not eaten it you would have had 8 oz. on the dot. but I have you for 8 oz. because it was almost right on.

  6. I guess we have till the end of September to enter to MI contest. I entered on on webcajun’s channel for the largest. All good fun.

  7. just get a timer from a hardware store for the lights to grow “tomatoes”.

  8. There are light timers. You plug them into an outlet and then plug the light into them. Jewish individuals use them on Shabbos because they can’t use electricity.

An example: but definitely not the only type.
