Question by misty19492000: Does anybody have a recipe for green tomato salsa?
I had shrimp and grits with green tomato salsa at a restaurant and it was delicious. I know it had tiny diced green tomatoes, onions, and I think green peppers. I’m not sure what else was in it.

Ingredients
12 ounces Mexican green tomatoes (tomatillos)
Water
1/2 small onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon fine-chopped cilantro
1 teaspoon minced Jalapeno chilies
1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
1/8 teaspoon sugar
Salt, to taste

Instructions
Remove and discard husks from green tomatoes; simmer in water to cover in large saucepan 5 to 8 minutes until tender. Cool; drain, reserving liquid.

Process tomatoes, onions, garlic, cilantro, jalapeno chilies, cumin and sugar in a food processor fitted with the metal blade, using on/off pulses, until almost smooth, adding enough reserved liquid to make medium dipping consistency Season with salt.

Goes great with Low-Fat White Chili.

  1. the green tomato you are talking about is tomatillos
this is how i make the salsa:
buy some serrano peppers (they are green too)
some tomatillos and onion. i always get half of the amount of tomatillos if i were to use 4 peppers, i would use 2 tomatillos (they have little ones and big ones, get the big ones)
anyways you wash the peppers and tomatillos. cut the stem off the peppers and take off the peel from the tomatillos and boil them in water. once they are done, with a spoon take out the peppers and the tomatillos and put in the blender add some chopped onion (as much as you want) and then add some salt to taste. with the same water used to boil to peppers and the tomatillos, pour some of it in the blender, then liquify and you are done!

  2. GREEN TOMATO SALSA

This is a spicy dip for tortilla chips or an appealing topping for burritos.

    1 tbsp. vegetable oil
    1 clove finely chopped garlic
    2 jalapeno peppers, seeds removed
    Salt & freshly ground pepper
    1 sm. onion, finely chopped
10 green plum tomatoes or tomatillos or 5 med. green tomatoes
    2 tbsp. chopped fresh cilantro

Combine oil, onion and garlic in a small microwave safe casserole dish and microwave on high for 1 minute. In a blender or food processor, puree tomatoes, cilantro and jalapeno peppers. Stir puree into onion garlic mixture. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
