Question by AJ: Is it possible to infect a vineyard with a disease to kill grape crops?
No I’m not planning on destroying someone’s vineyard, I’m writing a book. I’ve done a lot of research on certain kind of pests, black rot, downy mildew, tomato ringspot etc. I was wondering if these were naturally occurring problems or if you could possibly sabotage a competing winery’s crop?

It is possible, but I don’t know the specifics. I know that plant pathologist frequently do research into ways of controlling invasive species by means of infected an area with a pathogen that destroys that plant but not the others around it. It is not unlikely that you could do that to grapes, but it would be highly dangerous for the risk of infecting your own crop would be great. So yes it probably is possible. It is also possible to let loose an insect or animal that specifically eats grapes.
There is a fungus that infects grapes, but it isn’t necessarily bad. They call it noble rot (I think), it is a mold that grows on grapes, it looks pretty nasty, but some wineries specifically want it on their grapes, it makes a sweet tasting wine.
