Question by Kristine S: Are fried green tomatoes just unripe tomatoes?
I think that there are real “green tomatoes” that you use for this recipe not just unripe red tomatoes.

No they are not unripe. They are many variations on your standard grocery store tomoato. They have yellow, red, and even green. Try your local farmers market to see.

green tomatoes are NOT unripe tomatoes…they are completely different…they never turn red because they are not supossed to much in the same way that Guineo Verde Bananas are always green and are not the same as regular bananas…
you can ask your grocer to order them…they usually are available but most supermarkets don’t carry them all the time because there is very little demand for them…
