Fried Red Tomato Sandwiches

Fried Red Tomato Sandwiches

Too many tomatoes in the garden? Layers of garden fresh tomatoes, sandwiched together with Philadelphia Cream Cheese, garden fresh basil, sun-dried tomatoes,…

Question by angelikabertrand64: Should I stop watering my tomatoes now, so they can get red color?
I have plenty of tomatoes hanging on my 10 tomatoe plants. However, they are all green and various sizes. I wonder is it now visible to cut back on watering, so that I will have red tomatoes to eat soon? I live in Northern Utah and we have extreme heat weave.

I have never heard of cutting back on water to turn tomatoes red? I would think the plants would die. Just keep watering them, they will turn red when they are ripe.

  1. Tomatoes will need water to ripen properly.
Let em do it in their own time.

  2. No. don’t stop watering them. If they get too dry, they will suck the moisture from the plant and the blossom end will get like leather and turn black.

  3. Thank you for saying that you are having a heat wave. It is good information–because now is the time to make sure that your tomatoes have plenty of water.

They WILL NOT ripen (turn red) if they don’t have enough fertilizer and water. Without the proper amount of food and water, your plants will not be able to have the energy needed to ripen or support the fruit. Now would be the time to give your plants some Neptune fish emulsion.

  4. Do not stop watering them, you will end up with blossom end rot which will cause big black spots on the bottom of the tomatoes…also treat with a funguscide to prevent blight which is also harmful to the plant, never pick tomatoes when the vines are wet, also they like calcium, you can side dress with a little lime…you should have healthy tomatoes, they will ripen just fine…

  5. They need lots of sun and water, I would still water them

  6. i don;t have a answer for you. i just wanted to say i have the same stinking problem. i am sitting with these green tomatoes and in a heat wave.
