  1. Could you please tell me what that white powder was again that you added?…Calcium what?….Thank you.

  2. hi clownloverful, egg shell, when broken down, will provide some calcium to the soil. however, they break down very slowly. Newly distributed egg shells would probably not be of much use to your tomatoes in the short run. Probably better to toss them in the compost pile and for later use, after your compost has cooked.

  3. I was told that grind-up egg shell in the soil would help my tomatoes grow. Is this true?

  4. Your garden is a beauty, congratulations.

  5. Yes, we do stake all our tomato plants.

  6. Don’t you stake your tomato plant?

  10. Dear MsSpencerInFrance,
As far as we can tell, there is no way to keep a tomato, in a pot, during the summer, watered enough. Like you, we simply water them everyday. Tomatoes in the ground, that’s a different story. Our garden is a small urban garden, we use raised beds and after planting we lay on a three to four inch layer of mulch to maintain moisture. This works fine for us and now we only water twice a week. Good luck and let us know it your tomatoes turn out this season!

  11. Hiya, How do I stop the soil from drying out to quickly?
I water twice a day but it is still really dry in the summer in the South of France and My tomatoes stuffer.
