Question by Nena: Why are my tomatoes on the plant not growing?
I have several tomato plants and have blossoms and some fruit on them, but the tomatoes are not growing very much. How long do they usually take to grow to full maturity? I think one of them is a cherry tomato and the other one a Roma.

Are they in the sun? They probably need to be fertilized. Mine are the same and are doing better with added fertilized.

  25. Could be a number of things. One could be a water issue, not enough will give you smal fruit, too much can cause blight. That is what happened in my area this year. 28 days of rain in June killed all but killed the tomato crop.

  26. Sun light, water, fertilizer, warm roots, harvest when ripe. If the roots are cramped like in a container, they will not do as well as in the ground. Big containers are better, the ground is best.

  27. I believe many people in certain areas are having the similar problems all because of the weather,,,,some say it doesn’t stay warm enough at night

  28. If they are container grown and getting proper direct sunlight (6-7hrs/day) I can almost guarantee they are not getting enough water.

Tomato plants have an extensive root system and require a great deal of water (1gal/day) when blooming.

If you feel you’re giving proper light and water, try a balanced fertilizer like Miracle Grow for vegetables once per week. Follow the label on usage closely, too much will turn it yellow and die.

  29. Growing tomatoes the hydroponic way involves farming tomatoes in a nutrient-rich solution without using soil. Plants need nutrition, sunlight, and water to grow. Since a hydroponic tomato receives a closely monitored supply of nutrition and water, it grows faster and healthier than plants grown in soil.Using hydroponics, you can give them the right amount of nutrients and light and watch them grow.

Tomatoes require adequate spacing to grow well. Besides, a good yield of tomatoes depends on inputs such as the right amount of water, mulch, etc. The lack, or excess, of any of these inputs can play havoc with the crop.

Plant nutrition is the key to successful hydroponics, and it is especially true while growing tomatoes.
