Question by Steve: the basic steps of hydroponics and how much money I need to start growing?
All I want is to know how to start off with growing tomatoes hydroponically.
I want to know the specific materials required to start off. I’m an experienced gardener and am used to using soil as my constant nutrient source for growth.
Now I want to get to know how to grow tomatoes hydroponically, tomatoes are just an experiment, I’m not all about tomatoes.
Please enlighten me on the expenses and cost first, and then the materials and how they are used.
Thank you.

Here are several sites for beginners. The costs will depend on size and equipment needed.

okay thanks so much! this video is super helpful and really easy!
I think you’ll be alright on the animals front. The animals you’d have the most difficulty with when it comes to tomatoes would be birds, or tomato worms. And for either of those, you can put the tomato plants wherever and still end up with worms or bird problems. With tomatoes, the more sun you can give them, the better – that’s been my experience anyway. Mid-day to evening sun is the best.
This is a really good suggestion. Should help the tomato plant to bear more fruit.
Okay here is a city person trying to grow tomatoes for the first time come spring/summer since i just moved out to the country. I want to keep them hanging up to keep animals out of it. I live in a downstairs basement apartment. There is a deck i could hang them from but it would be the bottom half. How much sunlight does it need? It would be in the sun until sunset. Is that a good area? Or should I put it in a pot on my stoop and if so suggestions on how to keep animals out of it?
Get more out of your tomato plant. Pinch off the suckers (search it if you don’t know what that is) and plant them (keep in full shade till roots are established) and they’ll grow and produce fruit along with the parent plant.
I had no idea I said that so many times. Thanks for the humor this morning! Gotta laugh at myself and also that I didn’t notice that until you pointed it out here.
lol, awesome video. i just thought it was funny how many times you said “im gonna go ahead”….
Thank-you for commenting!
i’m gonna go ahead and comment…
Yea. Good propaganda. But I ain’t buying that BPA is good for men when there are many non-biased studies that prove it causes a ton of problems, not the least of which is causing men to become effeminate. Wonder why more and more men want to be humped by men? Learn more abt eugenics, science put at the service of the criminal class.
Hey, i just started growing veggies in raised beds and pots in my back yard. I have had great results. It was just a experiment to start. Im going ot grow a lot more next year to can and dry. Take a look at my channel and please subscribe. keep the videos coming. thanks

Don’t know. Was 2 1/2 years ago and the milk cartons are long gone. Interesting point though.
Thanks! Next time I would cut the top and bottom off a second milk jug because the plants really need more root space… or maybe find some 5 gallon buckets. We got fewer tomatoes than we should have and I think it was just due to the limited amount of soil.
Wonderful idea.
That makes sense and is a good idea. Sounds like a good idea for next time! I’d also use 5-gallon buckets instead of 1 gallon milk jugs.
You know you could have done that in a tub. Which wouldn’t make much of a mess and make it easier to clean!
Not sure if that’s sarcasm, but you rinse out the jugs before use.
Milk flavored tomatoes. WHY NOT?
Some, yes… that’s why it’s outside. I toyed with the idea of hanging the bottom of the milk jug (the part I cut off) under the upside down milk jug, but never got back to it.
Doesn’t the water drain out of the jugs?
Yes, they did grow tomatoes. I made a follow up video which is here on YouTube. In short, here is what I learned – use 5 gallon buckets (instead of 1 gallon containers). 1 gallon is too small and there is not enough root base to grow lots of tomatoes. Also make sure to keep the bucket well watered. But yes, this does work to produce tomatoes.
did it produce any fruits? if so, did you make a video or take pictures? If so, would you please share them with us?
I don’t know how peanuts, but potatoes grow under the soil, so I don’t know how that would work. If you used 5 gallon buckets, you might be able to grow cucumbers or maybe green beans?
Here is a system I put together for about a hundred bucks. It would be easy to scale up if you had the room.

You make 100% profit , so if you sell $ 1000 of kush a week you would earn $ 1000 minus electricity bills, but if your smart you’ll be able to figure out how to make free electricity 😉
