Question by ronnie: 1st time gardnerer…I transplanted a husky cherry tomato plant with 3 stems. is that bad?
i bought a husky cherry tomato plant from lowe’s. It has 3 stems. It looks like 3 lttle plants next to each other, and seems a little crowded. Are they supposed to be separated or can they stay like that? They are 1 ft tall. Thanks!

If there are 3 separate plants then yes separate them , they are only started in those pot’s , they are meant to be transplanted into bigger pots, or the Garden. be careful when separating the roots, don’t pull or rip apart. if going into pots choose a much larger size pot.

I find that if I want to save all the plants in a situation like this that the best way is to remove the plants from the container and swish the root ball in a bucket of water, they tend to separate pretty easily. There is nothing wrong with planting them just as they are, they will still make tomatoes.
Separate them and plant them with only four inches of plant above the soil. They will develop roots on all the surface that is buried and will be much stronger plants. Tomatoe plants like a gallon of water a day per plant. Water from the bottom only and avoid getting the foliage wet.
