Both have a ketchup and sweet pickle base I think.

I know that Thousand Island has a beige colour and Russian is red. that’s about it :/

that’s almost how I’ve been making mine except I add garlic and chilli. And
I squish my cherry tomatoes and peel the skin off while it’s cooking. Then
I put this over a hot-dog fried in butter!
They have different names
Russian dressing is for communists. Thousand island if for New Yorkers. They are basically the same except that Thousand island also has pickles and oinions and tiny chopped green olives. Thousand Island began its life as Russian dressing. The biggest difference is that Thousand Island often includes a finely chopped hard-boiled egg.
Both dressings are actually American. The recipe for Thousand Island dressing was first published in 1900 so it has been around over a century.

Ingredients
3/4 cup light whole-egg mayonnaise
2 1/2 tablespoons tomato sauce
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
3 gherkins, finely chopped

1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon red wine vinegar
