Question by ashley r: What are some healthy sweet foods that I can replace with sweet junk food?
I love cooking. I cook veggies, fish and meats with high protein but I feel as though I’m addicted to sweets. Every shopping trip I grab my cookies, ice cream, cakes, etc. and I snack on EACH thing I bought throughout the day. I want to change so this time around I want to make a list of things that are healthier for me.
I made a list of FRUITS I like but I need more suggestions.
Also I drink a lot of juice. Are there any healthy juice drinks that are low in sugar?

Ive come to find out that nothing can compare to sweet junk food its just impossible. You have to aquire the taste of healthy junk food and get used to it. Those 100 calorie packs are okay.

  4. I’ve had a revelation, an epiphany, even! Dried fruit! That’s it !! Dried fruit is VERY sweet, MUCH sweeter than regular fruit. It’s uber concentrated since the water’s been sucked out.

*Make sure you buy it WITHOUT added sugar or weird chemicals. You just need to read the labels.

So, this would give you the sugar fix you’re wanting AND is healthy, has fiber, etc. Check out the serving size and calories if you’re watching your weight or trying to lose.

Drinking a lot of juice is NOT good. Eat the fruit, instead. Only drink juice now and then.

My list of fav fruits: banana, orange, strawberries, peaches, tomatoes, berries, pineapple, melons, grapes, kiwi

Try freezing some of the fruits for a change of pace. Grapes, strawberries, peaches, berries and melons all freeze well. Then just eat them right out of the freezer OR make a combo smoothie by adding a small amount of fruit juice/skim milk. Healthy AND sweet.

I buy the tiny, individually portioned candy bars and keep them in the fridge or freezer. They’re out of sight and they usually have to warm up a bit before I can eat them. That deters me a bit.

I also buy individually wrapped hard candies. They’re only a few calories, compared to other sweets and they last awhile. Usually when I’m finally finished with one, I’m over my sugar craving.

I keep fresh fruit on the counter ALL the time. Applesauce is good to keep on hand. I get unsweetened and add cinnamon. You could add a TINY bit of sugar if you wanted.

***Try to look at fruit as more of a dessert. Eat fruit INSTEAD of candy, icrecream, cake, cookies, etc.***

IF you’re serious about being healthy (and losing weight?) then leave the CRAP at the store. (Make homemade treats occasionally IF you want, freeze extras, share with neighbors, etc.) AND stock up on fruits and vegs, whole grains, lean meats.

I also buy frozen fruits and vegs, so I always have them handy and don’t have to worry about them getting lost in the fridge and go bad (like fresh ones).

I always have whole wheat bread and bagels. I keep them in the fridge/freezer to keep them fresh.

Oatmeal is one of my recent favs. Yummy with a LITTLE brown sugar/honey, butter and a BUNCH of cinnamon and FANTASTIC for you. The cinnamon makes it taste MUCH sweeter than what it really is, which is good.

My list of fav foods: banana, orange, strawberries, peaches, tomatoes, berries, pineapple, melons, grapes, kiwi, broccoli, corn, peas, green beans, pea pods, oats, whole wheat bread/bagels, whole grain cornbread, all kinds of beans, potatoes (yep! low in calories and fat and nutritious, have vit c), sweet potatoes, carrots…

I usually eat at least 10 vegs and fruits per day. I focus more on the vegs since they’re often lower in cals and honestly I can’t eat a ton of fruit. Too much sugar for me.

You’ll look better. You’ll feel better. Your body will function better. And it’s a great way to lose weight, if you want.
