Question by fifi: Is July going to be too late to plant tomatoes?
I’m finally moving into a house that has room outside to make a garden! This is going to be my first attempt, but I am wondering if it’s going to be too late in the season to plant cherry tomatoes? Should I buy more mature tomato plants to put in? Is there anything else that I can get to grow if I plant in mid July? Thanks!

There are some varieties of tomatoes that start giving mature fruit at about 65 days. That should allow you enough time to get some fresh tomatoes before the weather turns cold. You may also consider planting them in large pots that you can move inside your home when frost threatens. That should lengthen your growing season so you can enjoy your tomatoes longer. Just try to give them as much natural light as possible. Good luck!

  1. Hi Steve
Thank you soo much for your passion in quality good food.
We agree with you on the oil.
From next class we will add the supplier contact. Thats my favorite oil. Please share our classes as well as fb. So we can rise a bit the food culture that lately collapsed in HK.
    Thanks from Enomod

  3. If you can still find the tomatoes then yes and the larger thesooner you will have tomatoes. Here check out this link:http://www.easy-vegetable-gardening.com/vegetable-gardening-planting-times.html

  4. I planted a row of peas today! Yes there are lots of veggies you can plant in July, Go to your garden centre and check the back of the packets of seeds. They should tell you when to plant and how long they take to mature!

Good luck with your first experience of growing your own food. I do know that once you have tried home grown, like me, you will never want another shop bought one again!

Don’t forget, if you don’t get it right this time, it’s only a packet of seeds, try again next year when you will have more time.

  5. This specialist website should be of help with advice on that.
