Question by Mick: How do you peel whole garlic from the grocery store?
I bought whole garlic from the grocery store to make a tomato soup recipe. I have used minced garlic and garlic powder before, but I have never had to peel a whole clove myself. Do you just remove the outside skin and keep all the pieces inside?

Yes!
Yes. You can actually hit it with a knife to bust the clove up and then the skin will pull away from it. If you want to keep it whole just cut the ends off and peel the skin away
Yes, remove the papery skin from the garlic. An easy way to remove it is to smash garlic using the wide, flat side of the knife.
they do not remove the stem
you remove the cloves as needed
The whole head of garlic is made up of cloves. First you need to peel off the skin covering all of the cloves. Then you can sort of pick off the cloves as you need them. Each clove will need to be peeled as well. The easy way to do this is to place the flat side of a knofe on top of the clove and smash the knife, with a fist on the top of the flat knife, to slightly smash the clove. The peel then is easy to remove from the good part.
You may want a garlic press too, to mince the resulting clove, or you can mince by chopping with a knife.
you only peel however many cloves you need not the whole head. here is a video showing 2 ways to do it.
