Hello John, do you know what cause tomatoes leaves to curl? Thank you
Great video! Wish I could find starts of the Oregon Spring here as it looks like it may be a 3rd year in a row as a short season for us here in Portland, Oregon. Love tomatoes but without that much needed sunshine here, one has no other choice than to grow determinate tomatoes. Can’t believe spring begins tomorrow.. we had snow (again) today. brrrrrrr
Badass shows and great information.I never used rock dust before I seen these videos!!!
hah i grew several tomato and pepper even cantaloupe in 5 gallon buckets last year
where can we buy pine berries. White strawberries that taste like pineapple
Cut the bottom of the concrete wire to make “prongs” to stick into the ground, then place stakes opposite each other for further reinforcement. Hope this helps!
I live in Texas. Those tomato cages look like concrete reinforcement wire. Cheaper at DIY or lumber yard store. This is what most Texans use. Cow panels are good for a sturdy trellis.
I live in Texas. That’s concrete reinforcement wire. Pick it up at your local diy,or lumber yard store. It’ll be cheaper. Cut off the bottom square to make “prongs” to stick into the ground. Add stakes opposite each (in ground) for added support. Cow panels are good for trellis, too
Man we didn’t even get to see one hundred tomatoes what a bummer lol I love tomatoes more than you love your collards like to eat them like apples
“lots of flavor in a small package” i guess people would give different meanings to that quote i like you videos i watch them all the time, whenever there is something i dont know i know you will have a video with an answer
thanks for all the help
so which tomato is the best!?
just to mention you can buy texas tamato cage for much cheaper then the $25 on the sign there,i bought 6 large for $100,plus shipping/also they fold up flat when not in use which is good for off season storage.they have a video on youtube.
Looks like a great event! 200 varieties! Wow. I love heirloom tomatoes. Tomatoes seem to be the rockstars of most vegetable gardens. Lots of great info. Thanks
Thanks John. Could you do something about cross pollination and protecting heirloom plants?
webcajun channel on youtube has a great video on making “Texas” Style tomato cages.
The only sad part is that they hold this event in 5-7 locations around California….except in the Sacramento area….(or Sacratomato since its the tomato capitol) I will have 40-60 tomato plants this year and this event would have been very nice to go to. I as well mostly use Indeterminate since we still can get fruit into November.
Hi John! Thanks for sharing all the information (and exhibits) from Tomatomania. (Nice to see the difference between potato-leaf and regular tomatoes, up close.) It looks like you have zillions of videos posted; I look forward to learning all I can from them!
We were going to “expand” the diameter of the cages we used last year, but after talking it over with sage, we decided just to reuse the cages from last year. look at my old videos for pictures. They are just galvenized fence rolled up. 6′ high was best. look up the video tomato canopy
Thanks John. I’m not able to get to many of these types of events so I appreciate your field trips!
I’ve never grown or even seen a full grown tomato plant.. but i bought a 6 pack of cherry tomatoes no idea if they are terminate or not.. I have no idea how to care for them other then what i’ve seen in your videos. I was going to just prop it up as I thought they needed it.. all 6 of them are between 1 foot and 2.5 feet tall right now. o_o
Thanks John – that was so interesting!
We’re wondering what kind of cages/supports to use for our tomatoes this year. You mentioned you’ll be fashioning your own. Will you share that with us?
We bought cages last year (small ones – not like the TX cages you showed) and they were a total waste of money. I’m interested to see what you’re doing.
Thanks!

Yeah…but do they have nipple tomatoes?

Cherokee Purple Tomatoes! I love em, grew three plants last year and have seed stock for this year… can’t wait
