  1. Growing Cucumbers Vertically in Sunken Container Gardens

Sunken containers allow you to concentrate the ‘best’ soil in one location
for the vegetables or in this case the cucumber plants. This can save you
money. The bottoms are removed or a large portion is cut out of the
container to allow the roots to grow beyond the size of the container. This
allows the vegetables to grow to full size without worry of root
constraints and it allows them to get moisture.

Cucumbers are heavy feeders and should be fed 1 to 2x weekly, based on your
choice of fertilizers, once they start producing cucumbers. Cucumbers in my
area are prone to soft bodied insect attacks. Growing them vertically not
only saves space in your garden but it helps you better manage pests and
disease. It is much easier for me to get my soapy water spray on the
undersides of the leaves when they grow up a tomato cage.

  7. Thanks.

  8. I typically use Miracle Gro as my water soluble. It doesn’t break the bank
and it is effective. My ground mix when I prepare the soil is a whatever I
find on sale or have made.

  9. Thanks. It is a really effective way to grow them and concentrate your
    resources to one specific area.

  10. In a stand a lone 5 gallon container I would only plant 1 cucumber if it is
on your deck or something. In a sunken container because the bottom is cut
out 1 or 2 for a larger container like one pictured in the video. I am
assuming you are growing full sprawling cukes and not the compact variety.

  11. NP :)

  12. Definetly! If its a good size pot! you could grow 3 plants max in a 10
gallon container. Good Luck! -The Organic Boy

  13. I was thinking of doing this earlier today. I have several empty containers
and I was going to cut the bottoms off some and bury them with six or eight
inches above the ground. I thought they’d make great mini raised
beds…you’ve conviced me to go ahead with it! Keep up the good work!

  14. how many cucumbers for gallon?! one for a three gallon or five gallon or
    two for five gallon?

  15. what specific fertlizers do you use?

  16. Could I grow cucumbers in a clay pot with only one drainage hole?

  17. Cool. Cucumbers can grow out of control. I wonder if keeping them in a
container will keep the growth down to a more manageable size.

  18. Thanks for watching. I love gardening is global. Good to interact with
    worldwide gardeners. Good luck.

  20. I don’t know. Unlucky for me is that humidity and bugs get mine. So I am
always replanting and they just never hang to grow out of control.
