Question by K D: How much solids do I begin feeding baby?
My 6 month old baby has been eating solids for about 4 weeks now. Sometimes he’ll have a whole Heinz jar of vegies, I haven’t given him sweet things like custard & don’t think I will do this, just keep to the vegies & some of the jar foods have meat in them ie pureed chicken/beef. So should I be giving him 3 meals a day & break up the solids, is 1 jar too much per day or too little? Help, new mum. Thanks.

my child started eating way before six months but i usually purreed my own vegies and made my own puree apples and pears,
when i started giving solids id give her baby cereal in mornings bottle at about 11am, then maybe some puree apples at 1pm , bottle at 3pm and then tea at 6pm and then bottle at 8pm,
you will graduallyget used to it and know when its best
but saying this dont over feed them, so you only want to get them used to food so maybe a couple of spoonful at 1pm
goodluck

Ho Mean!–> I agree Japanese dude I totally agree
I started with one bowel of single grain rice cereal mixed with formula. Then one 1st stage gerber a day veggie and tried a new one every few days. I didn’t want to miss an allergy if she had one and then not know what veggie caused it. Next I did 1st stage fruits the same way with a fruit and oatmeal for breakfast and a veggie for dinner. I did not introduce meats until way later on when she was about 9 months and started the 3rd gerber stage with meat chunks. Now she 10 months and eats safe table foods and 3rd stage gerber for breakfast lunch and dinner. Wow hope that wasn’t confusing and it helped you!
Until a year old, a baby’s primary nutrition source should be breastmilk or formula. I started my baby on solids at 6 months and it was just 1/2 – 1 jar of stage one foods each day. It was mostly to get him used to the texture and idea of solids.
Once you get closer to a year, most doctors want them on a 3 solids a day schedule, but they still need the breastmilk or formula first.
you should start him on breakfast, lunch and dinner routine. instead of using canned food wjhy dont you give him natural foods. you can get some idea on this at http://www.learning-graph.com/recipes.htm
I’m a new mom as well and i had no clue what i was doing also, lol. I give my son food when he smacks his lips, thats my cue to give him food. It depends on your baby! He’ll let you know when he is hungry. I gave my son 3 jars of food per day. Stage 2 and he was 7 months. My son just swallows his food without chewing and thats why i’m at the 2s with him…. i dont think hes ready for the 3 because they have little chunks of food, i had my son choke on me a lot of times when he would try white rice with his turkey gerber… But I make him tomato soup with star noodles and he is able to eat that. and he LOVE IT. So i think u should do what u think is right. good luck
i think your 6 month old should be doing fine with 2 meals a day.atleast this way you can make sure that it does not cut down on the maximum 4 feeds of the milk per day which is also essential for a growing infant.
