Tomato Sauce is what we used when our dog got skunked…You have to leave it on them for about 20 minutes…..Be careful not to dump too much stuff on your dogs skin…It could cause a much worse problem for you.. Good luck

  1. I think the pet stores sell products, but I’m not sure how effective they are. Call animal rescue groups in your area, I bet they’ve dealt with this before!

  2. Bathe dog in a mix of warm water and (sold as “TKO Orange”) orange oil. The water should just appear slightly milky before putting in dog. Rinse dog well and repeat once more.

  3. I don’t know how much help this will be, but I just watched a “Mythbusters” on this very subject. They tried everything from store bought cleaners to tomato juice and the tomato juice won hands down. The smell will not go away completely, it takes time. It will help the dog become tolerable, but time will do the rest. Sorry you dog got sprayed….yuck

  4. That episode of Mythbusters…they used beer, tomato products , a store bought skunk remedy and a concoction of hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap….the hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish soap is what won Hands down!
    Removing skunk odor with…:

    * Tomato juice: plausible
    * Beer (MGD): busted
    * Douche: busted
    * Hydrogen peroxide + baking soda + liquid dish soap: confirmed
    * Commercial skunk remover: confirmed (not as good as custom mix above)

  5. The only thing that will work, not 100 percent guaranteed, is tomato juice.
    First check your dog’s eyes. The spray from a skunk can be very irriating to a dog. Also, you will have to keep the dog outside. The smell is hard to remove from a house. Bathe the dog, shampoo very well, then dry the dog throughly and then douse the fur with tomato juice. Depending on the size of the dog this could take quite a few cans but it’s the only thing that I know that has a positive effect.

  6. I’ve heard vinegar is a good odor neutralizer. It’s cheap too.
