Question by mamarat: Chicken recipe with Campbell’s Tomato Soup?
In an effort to avoid grocery shopping in our continuing rains, I found a recipe for a Sweet & Tangy Chicken using Campbell’s Tomato. It calls for a Tblsp of vinegar. Would you use red wine, white wine or apple cider vinegar? Also has brown sugar, water and butter.
Jupyter:
Campbell’s Sweet & Tangy Chicken
1 Tblsp butter
4 chicken breasts
1 can Tomato soup
1/4 cup water
1 Tblsp packed brown sugar
1 Tblsp vinegar
4 cups cooked rice
Heat butter in skillet, cook chicken til browned.
Add soup, water, sugar and vinegar. Heat to boil. Cover and cook over low heat 5 mins. Serve with rice.
Sounds perfectly easy to me!!
Must. Look. For. Cake.

red wine is more of a salad vinegar but you could use it in a pinch. The others would work just fine.

The apple cider vinegar,it will work like the white.
They are most likely referring to the plain white vinegar, but I think the apple cider vinegar would also taste nice… It’s not a large amount in the recipe so I cant see that it could be greatly affected by using other alternatives… you might come up with a recipe that tastes even better then the original!
I would use apple cider vinegar. It has a nicer taste and would go better with brown sugar.
Do you care to post the recipe? It sounds good!!
EDIT TO ADD:
Thanks for posting it!
Any one of the four that you mentioned…….I, myself would use the cider vinegar……just a preference….BTW, that recipe is a great one to use when you have to have a “pantry meal” (meaning, it’s raining/snowing and you don’t want to deal with going out to the store, you use what you have on hand) You might also want to go to CampbellsKitchen.com for some great and simple recipe ideas….Did you know that you can make a chocolate cake with tomato soup??? Check out the recipe on their site…….Interesting!! Enjoy!!

Try cooking that recipe but omit the sugar and vinegar, adding instead 1/2 cup of red wine or beer. Sprinkle with grated parmesan or mozzarella, and chopped parsley or spring onions.
FYI: Campbell’s soups have MSG in them (as do a lot of canned soups).
I know Muir Glen doesn’t and I believe that Wolfgang Puck’s doesn’t
