Question by Daniel D: My dog got sprayed with a skunk, does tomato juice really work?
It apparently was a direct hit mind you, otherwise he would smell a lot worse. My uncle suggested tomato juice, however, my grandma is being skeptical. He doesn’t smell horrific or anything, but wherever he goes he does stink up the room a little bit.

It HELPS. But only time fully takes the stench away.
i used it on my beagles, you just have to do it more than once..
or take him to your vet or local groomer, if you dont have time
I’ve heard there is a better remedy, I think it contains hydrogen peroxide among other things. Google for skunk spray.
My dog was sprayed once too. I tried tomato juice and it didn’t do anything. Until the day he died he had a terrible smelling face. Of course it doesn’t hurt to try.
lmao it wont hurt him just give him a good bath if that doesnt work then get the tomato juice lol
Yes, tomato juice works on dogs too. Another, quick, fix is vinegar.
You’re lucky he didn’t get sprayed badly!
Tomato juice isn’t all that helpful, no.
I would use this formula:
1 quart hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon dishwashing liquid.
You can repeat as needed with this formula, but don’t store any leftover formula as it could explode a sealed container. 😉
I have heard that tomato juice is one of the only natural remedies for this. There is also a spray, I think it is called Skunk Out or Skunk Off that may work. Good luck getting the smell out. My dad had two dogs that were sprayed by a skunk and it was a horrible smell; especially when their coat/fur got wet.
I have used the formula Jessie gave you. It works really well on my dogs (one or other of them gets skunked about once a year).
yep
Lots of hydrogen peroxide and soap or a professional cleaner. It does cost about $ 200 though.
