You might want to try some Mexican tomatillos. Not quite a real tomato but they have a nice slightly tart flavor.
What do you think? Answer below!
Zucchini or yellow (summer) squash. Similar in taste and texture
zucchini or eggplant would work well.
When you find out let me know. I’ve been dying to know how I can have end-of-summer tomatoes and end-of-spring strawberries year round too, but honestly, instead, I’ve just learned to appreciate them when they are available. Part of the problem with year-round fruits and vegetables is quality when they are typically out of season (asparagus at Christmas just seems so wrong to me) and the lack of appreciation for what was once a seasonal fruit/vegetable. Enjoy what there is to enjoy now (you’ll also pay less for fruit and vegetables when they are in season and plentiful) and save the fried green tomatoes for your dreams of next year
Breaded & fried okra–available frozen year-round.
Try fried zucchini squash.
