Question by Mr. Basketnutz: Has anyone ever tried fried tuna?
Here’s a recipe
1 can tuna in oil
season with a lot of garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Fry until slightly brown and dry and fish taste is gone
put in plain tomato sauce on pasta.

Doesn’t look good but it tastes great and is super cheap.

Yes, my aunt and grandmother and mother used to make tuna in pasta sauce all of the time. (They’re all from Italy).
I don’t remember them frying it first, though. I’ll have to try that.
Thanks for the idea!

  6. Anyone that know me knows I can’t leave well enough alone:

    Fried Tuna with Pasta

    Ingredients:
    2 ounces butter
    1 onion, chopped
    1 clove garlic, crushed
    1 lb. canned tuna
    14 ounces canned tomatoes, undrained
    1/4 cup red wine (optional)
1 Tbs. plus 1 tsp. balsamic or malt vinegar
1 Tbs. plus 1 tsp. basil, chopped
    1/4 tsp. black pepper
    13 ounces pasta, cooked
    2-3/4 Tbs. Parmesan cheese, grated

    Prep:
Melt butter in a heavy, nonreactive skillet over low heat. Add onion, garlic, tuna. Cook for 1-2 minutes. Stir in the next 5 ingredients (wine optional) and simmer for about 10 minutes. Serve over cooked pasta and top with Parmesan cheese.

  7. Doesn’t even sound good.

  8. Thanx for the idea, sounds like a good recipe, you are right-it does not look good, but it sounds so tasty. =)

  9. Sounds good.. I’ll give it a try.

I usually do mine in a white sauce over pasta. Its good too.

Haven’t tried frying it …. I just usually add it to a white sauce with fried onion, sour cream, parsley and paprika.

The tomato sauce sounds healthier though as it contains licopene which is very good for you – according to the Oprah show :-)

  10. i like mine with lemon, preferably made in italy.

  11. Once in awhile i make fried tuna patties, take a can of tuna, drain, add chopped onion, an egg, some bread crumbs, plenty of seasong, a dash of olive oil. then just make small patties from the mixture, and pan fry in some oil, make a basic white sauce from butter and flour in the same pan after done frying, season sauce with salt and pepper. Its pretty good. This is actually a recipe i started out making with canned salmon, wich is better.
