Question by mattmannwo: Does anyone use tomato paste instead of tomato sauce on pasta?
I mean people use tomato paste for many reasons, including making ketchup. However, I use tomato paste instead of tomato sauce on my pasta. Anyone else?

My sauce recipe is tomato paste based. I use 3-4 cans of paste along with a huge can of puree as my base.

What would I do if I’m using this tomato sauce with handmade pasta the recipe that I’m using for pasta tells me to finish cooking the pasta in the tomato sauce so would I do that or something else with the pasta?

i’m not Italian, but according to a recent UK research, the nation that lives the longest and healthiest lives are in fact Italians, mostly because of the mediterranean cooking, which incorporates tomatoes, olive oil, fish, fresh salads and of course a glass of red wine durin lunch time…only a glass though eat italian and you’ll see a doctor every five to ten years. No disrespect to other nations intended.

This the easiest tomato sauce I have seen! I don’t have fresh basil so i’ll have to substitute it with dry basil. You have such a great way of showing us how to make something so simple! I was smiling the whole time!
Written by someone in the US. No one hates Americans more than Americans, yet I’ve never actually seen someone put it in writing. Bravo. What happens when you have a nation built on the concept of a “melting pot”, you get sub cultures that are altered from their originals. In terms of cuisine, Italy shouldn’t be nearly as offended as China. It’s not like they actually deep fry all their food and then cover it in syrup, but we call that Chinese.

I hate to be the guy that criticizes, but I have one complaint. I think it’s important to peel and seed the tomatoes before making the sauce. It makes the process longer but it’s worth it. Other than that, the video is great. Can’t wait to see how her recipe turns out for myself.

Yes you can. Dilute it then cook it down with some beef broth, red wine, or water, add some italian seasoning (or fresh herbs) and a tiny bit of crushed red pepper flakes.
Yes tomato paste is a great product but it’s a little sharp to me to use all by itself. I usually combine canned diced tomatoes , canned tomato puree and a couple tablespoons tomato paste…I find it’s smoother…also use a 1/2 cup of red dry wine, pinch of sugar, water and chicken broth sometimes..spices … the alcohol in the wine evaporates as it simmers along with all the other ingredients.
