Question by GIG: New at growing Tomatoes. If the branches don’t have yellow flowers on them they won’t grow tomatoes?
It seems the branches with flowers grow tomatoes? And if they don’t. they won’t?
I’m asking as there are a handful of branches that look a little weak and I would just assume trim them. Cut these wilted branches off. But I don’t want to harm the plant either…

Trimming weak or wilted branches will help, not hurt.

  1. The flowers are what will be tomatoes after they are pollinated. Leave the plant alone and let it grow. You don’t prune (trim) tomato plants.

  2. The healthy branches that don’t have blossoms on them now may well have them a little later if you don’t cut them off. If the leaves are wilted on some branches and not others they probably are lower branches. It is normal for the some of the lower limbs to wilt and die as the plant grows and it won’t hurt a thing if you trim them off.
