Question by Kellye: I think I over pruned my tomato plant, Is there a way to fix that?
I have a Early Girl cherry tomato plant in a pot on my balcony. I started pruning it and now I think I have cut to many of the leaves at the top of the plant. Will this kill my plant or slow down the growth and will they grow back?

  1. A pinch of Epson salt might help.

  2. The plant will be fine. In the future, don’t waste your time pruning. It is a false theory and has very little if any accuracy.

  3. It will be fine. These guys are called determinate plants, meaning that they will only grow to a predetermined size, so pruning is not necessary. It is best left for indeterminate. If you feel you have removed too much foliage, it will appreciate some afternoon shade for awhile. Just keep the soil’s moisture consistent. When a tomato wilts, it reduces it’s production throughout it’s life. It’s a hardy plant that will reward you with lots of sweet tomatoes!
