Question by kcat: Is it good to cut off the half dead leaves from a tomato plant?
I just cut all the dead and/or dying leaves off of my tomato plant and then realized I should find out if you’re even supposed to do that. It doesn’t hurt the plant, does it?

i do the same thing to my tomato plant. I don’t think it harms it because its like dead skin. Does it hurt to peel off. I don’t think so…

i think most of them do the same thing, i cut out all the dead leaves from almost all the plants even my rose plant n bamboo in my pots actually its good to cut out the dead leaves n put them back into the same pot it will turn into a good manure
I sure hope dead leaves don’t turn into manure, boy would my place stink. I have several acres of oak and hickory trees, and about half an acre of tomatoes, almost two acres of garden total. Dead vegetation turns into COMPOST!
NO, pulling/cutting dead leaves off will not hurt, they will eventually drop off naturally anyway. If you have a bunch of them on a plant it usually means you have a watering problem. They are not getting enough.
If your plant is starting to come into fruit, you can cut off many leaves to ensure that the tomatos get as much sun as possible. With more leaves than normal missing, the plant will put all its energy into growing the fruit rather than growing leaves. I cut off about 75% of the leaves from my tomato plants a month ago and they’re groaning under the weight of fruit right now.
if indoors its fine if outdoors you are opening a place where disease might grow ie. blight
He You should remove all dead/dying leaves as they are not good to your plant,at this time of the growing period you should also remove the lower leaves to give the ripping tomatoes more light and thus make them go red quicker.you should not cut but pull the leaves down and they will come away easily but make your hands green All the best John
It’s ok to cut off yellow leaves, it won’t hurt the plant.
I cut off most of the leaves off every year. I have planted a garden for 12 years and every year. I get enough tomatoes to can 12 quarts and make BLT’s, Oh YUM!
