Question by Misty: Do tomato plants die after they produce the actual tomato?
My tomato plants are starting to die now that they have produced tomatoes. I live in Oregon and this is the first year that I have grown tomatoes. I was just wondering if this was normal?

Not really. It’s probably late wilt.

We’re sort of having our own tomato version of the “Potato Famine” in the US this year. I’m so glad I grew from seed and none of my neighbors have tomatoes this year!

  1. you may have gotten hit with the blight or you may have grown determinate tomatoes these are the type growers use they grow set tomatoes all ripen at the same time then the plant dies. next time get indeterminate type they just keep on growing and producing until frost kills them. also about a month before the first killing frost pinch off all the buds so the energy will go to the developing tomatoes.
