Red Tomato

Question by Samantha: How long does it take for tomatoes to ripen?
I’ve got a huge tomato plant growing in my garden, with lots of green tomatoes on it. But I’m not to sure when to pick them. So if anyone knows the answer to this question I would appreciate your answer immensley
Oh crap, I stuffed up. What I meant to ask was how long does it take for the tomotoes to ripen?

I’m no expert, but when it turns red you should pick it.

  2. Tomatoes vary from one variety to the other.on average a tomato ripens from 70 to 80 days from time the plant is put into the soil. BUT,the color of the fruit should tell you something.

  3. Tomatoes normally take about three weeks to fully ripen but this does depend on the weather. In full sun they won’t take as long.
    If the weather is turning cold then the best thing to do after a couple of weeks is to take the fruit off and ripen them on your window sill.
    If this still doesn’t work then put them in a drawer with a banana. Believe it or not the banana will help to turn them red.

  5. Where do you live? If it is anywhere in the Northern Hemisphere except the extreme southern part, they are probably not going to. If there are lots of them, you could try sticking a few of them in a brown bag and storing it in a cool, dark place. They will ripen this way eventually, but not as good as vine ripened.
