Question by Crystal M: is it blood in her stool or cherry tomatoes from lunch?
she is 2yrs old…..it looks very close to blood but when i called the babysitter to ask her about it she said my baby had some cherry tomatoes for lunch….could it be from the red tomatoes?? should i wait to see if it happens agine befor i freak out?

The same thing has happened to me NUMEROUS times when my son has eaten carrots. It came out so orange it looked red and it scared me.
Tomatoes are red, so that would totally make her stool red.
I honestly think it’s the tomatoes 
Also, it could *possibly* be that she had a hard stool and it cut her bottom when it came out. That could leave a small smear of red.
Bright red blood is most likely from the exterior and not the interior. If it was internal, the blood would be black!

don’t freak out yet. bright red blood means it’s not internal. that would make stool black. it could very well be the tomatoes as well.
bllod appears in stool as bright red, you’ll know it’s blood. or it will make the stool black. Red is new blood, black is old blood. Red could be from severe constipation. Black is usually internal bleeding.
I think it’s the tomatoes, too. Blood in stool is black, and if it were red, it would be something on the surface to worry about, and you would be able to inspect the child, and it would be obvious if there were a wound.
you can test it. take some or the red stuff and put it on lipmus paper
It is probably the tomatoes, but for them to show up in her stool already since lunch time is awfully fast. If it was the tomatoes coming through minimally digested I would expect to see some seeds and for the stool to be pretty loose, kind of like having to make a quick trip to the pot after having Mexican as an adult.
