A quick and easy recipe that can be poured over a dish or used as a dipping sauce. A recipe for sweet and sour sauce .
Yields about 1/2 cup
Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Ingredients:
1/3 cup white or rice vinegar (Note: rice vinegar gives better results)
4 tablespoons brown sugar
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon soy sauce
2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 4 teaspoons water
Preparation:
Mix the vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and soy sauce together and bring to a boil in a small pot. Mix together the cornstarch and water, add to the other ingredients and stir to thicken.
(If desired, you can add 1 green pepper, cut into chunks, and pineapple chunks as desired after adding the cornstarch. For a thicker sauce, increase the cornstarch to 4 teaspoons while keeping the water constant.
Sweet & Sour Sauce
1/3 C. white vinegar
1 cup water
2/3 cup sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. white pepper
couple dashes Tabasco
1 Tbsp. cornstarch
2 Tbsp. water
½ tsp. worcestershire sauce
2 Tbsp. ketchup
1/4 cup orange marmalade
Combine first 6 ingreidents in small saucepan, and bring to a boil. Make a slurry w/ cornstarch, water, and worcestershire sauce; whisk into boilign vinegar/sugar mixture. Cook until it is bubbly and thick. Remove from heat, whisk in ketchup and orange marmalade.
Store any leftovers in fridge; keeps about 2 weeks.
The recipe I use:
SWEET & SOUR SAUCE
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup ketchup
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1/2 tsp garlic powder
the juice from one 14-oz. can of pineapple chunks (save the pineapple for later)
If making Sweet and Sour Pork, simmer the pork for 30-60 minutes in water to remove fat and cook the pork. Drain off the water.
Mix up the ingredients above in a sauce pan, bring to a boil. Reduce to a simmer and add the pork. Simmer for 20-30 minutes to let the meat soak up the sauce.
Just before serving, add:
The pineapple chucks and cook only long enough to heat through.
Then add:
2 Tablespoons cornstarch mixed into 1/3 cup COLD water stirring and simmering until it thickens.
Serve immediately, with cooked rice.
