Chef – Can we use potato instead of egg? Will potato suit this flavour?
Why not? I think that combo can act as the basic for anything infact.
i made it, and it was good, restaurant style egg curry
How long can this gravy be preserved? Other than egg what else can we use?
Tomato sauce, tomato puree, pizza paste, even spaghetti sauce.
UGH!! how nasty is putting tomatoes in chili!!
Use a brown gravy packet instead of the tomato paste if you must.
I would just leave the tomato paste out and add more water or broth.
You can simply add more tomatoes, but the flavor will be different. The process of cooking the tomatoes down into a paste adds certain savory flavors to the tomatoes that are hard to get otherwise. Also, the thickness of the paste will help to thicken your chili. If substituting whole diced tomatoes or canned tomatoes for tomato paste, I suggest you lengthen the simmering time of your chili significantly, to reduce and thicken the sauce and to help develop some of the flavors from the tomatoes.
You can absolutely throw in about a half of a cup of ketchup, and it will be just fine. Or you can just use crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce, but you would have to use more than 6 ounces. In that case, just put in the entire can. Leave the lid off the pot to reduce some of the extra liquid.
