Question by Alicia: Can tomato sauce be used to make goulash?
I looked high and low at the grocery for tomato juice or paste, and could NOT find the larger cans. Now maybe I wasn’t looking in the right place, but what it boiled down to is that I grabbed a couple cans of tomato sauce instead. I know some people use tomato juice, others use the paste, and some even go half an half. I’ve never heard of anyone using tomato sauce though. Have I make a mistake? Should I go back and buy the smaller cans of juice/paste instead?
Thanks everyone – I just wanted to make sure! And Floridia – that’s exactly what I got
Thanks again!

You bet it will work …go for it…it’s all tomato based and I like it with the sauce better and sometimes just add a couple of Tbsp. of the tomato paste with the sauce.
My mom taught me to make goulash with tomato sauce and it was always very good. I think you will be okay. If you were just using tomato paste, did the recipe call for an additional liquid? I ask because tomato paste is so thick, and when cooking with it one usually adds another liquid to thin out the paste. You goulash will be just fine!
You bet it would. 😉
I would much rather use tomato sauce than tomato paste for my goulash. I also add tinned tomatos to mine.
That’s exactly what I use…Hunt’s canned tomato sauce.
Yes, and don’t dilute it.
