Question by SayWhat?: How many meatballs will each guest eat? The meatballs are 1 of 6 finger foods on the buffet at a reception.?
This is the recipe I am using. I’m trying to decide how many times to multiply this recipe for appetizers for 75.

1 1/4 lbs ground turkey
1/2 medium white onion, chopped fine
4 garlic cloves, chopped fine
1/2 cup sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
1/2 bunch fresh basil, chopped
1/4 cup fennel seeds (seriously)
1 teaspoon ground pepper
2 eggs, beaten

How many meatballs will each guest eat?
How many 1inch meatballs will one pound of turkey yield? Thanks!

  1. i would plan for 3 each, because for 75 people having 6 finger foods, you kind of need alot. that would be a safe bet to make sure there’s enough food.

  2. Don’t leave the meatballs on the table…… Bubba will eat them all…..

    Bubba was invited……… right?

“O” Wise One……… and Bubba likes meatballs..

  3. i would think thae average family would eat roughly six meatballs altoger (son fater mother) but any more than 3 a person NOT in a sandwich is just plain rude and disgusting. just not polite

  4. If there is no “meal” following the finger foods, the guests will eat somewhere between 4-6 bites per hour (all selections, not just meatballs). Obviously the more choices available, the less of any one item you will need.

If there will be a meal following, estimate somewhere between 4-6 bites total – again, all selections, not just meatballs.

Here are a couple of helpful links when estimating the amount of food needed for a get-together:

  5. I made meatballs for my wedding and they were huge hit. We had besides the meatballs over 12 other finger foods. We made over 6 crockpots full of meat balls. I would suggest 4-5 meatballs each, because there are people who are going to eat 9 meatballs and then there are others who will have none. Even with all of the other finger foods we still ran out…. The reciepe we use is an italian family reciepe and has been sought after by the Betty Crocker company to be bought… that could also be why they were such a success.

  6. Darling skip the meat balls throw them to a dog …. yuck turkey !
subsitute the turkey for some Jimmy Dean sausage .
mmmm gooood i gurantee Justin Wilson said that .
    > id say 3 are 4 a peice depending on the size
    > a dash of red pepper
    > 2 tbs. of freash celantro
    > cook in a mild olive oil

  7. The proper calculation is to figure that each guest will eat two of each appetizer. If you want to be on the safe side add an overage of 10% of the total to each appetizer to make sure you will have enough. Calculation below.

    Meatballs(2) x guests + 10%=
    2x 50 (100)+.10 =110

    Have fun!

  8. I’d plan on 5-6 perperson, since they only have 5 other choices. You have to figure some may not eat raw veggies or fruit or whatever else you have planned for finger food. I’d be sure and make them small, however… use a little cookie scooper to make them uniform. And serve w/ a smallish spoon or tongs, not a big honking serving spoon that will hold 12 meatballs. You may also try the T&T caterer’s trcik, and put your meatballs at the end of the buffet line, so folks can fill their plates up w/ other stuff before getting to the meatballs. And use little7-8″ luncheon plates, rather than 10-1/4″ dinner plates.

  9. If you make them each 2-3 ounces, after cooking they will shrink. I would allow 2 or 3 per person with a total of 6 choices for apps.
Better add salt or they will be tasteless! Use less fennel (really)! This Chef Rocks

  10. There are 16 oz. in a pound. Therefore you will get 16 – 1 oz. balls from a pound. I just made them for a golf tournament and cooked 12 pounds for 136 people with hot dogs and hamburgers and sandwiches. We had 2 meatballs left over. For 75 people I would suggest using about 6-7 pounds of meat.

  11. They may not eat that many ,some people don’t like fennel since it taste like licorice.but normally I’d say 6 per person.you say 6 finger foods? not much food huh?good luck

  12. that right

  13. One source says 1 1/4 inch meatballs, and one pound of turkey will make 4 servings. Another source says 2 inch meatballs, and 2 pounds serves four people. Only way to find out is to make a batch, and see how much it makes, then multiply.
I would eat two or three, if I were a guest.

  14. I think each guest will probably eat at least 4 meat balls…I know when I make them they are the hit of the party and they are gone. I would rather make more than not have enough.
I would say to at least triple the recipe.

  15. In the catering business, we’d figure 1.5 – 2 per person. Remember, you’re having other stuff.

  16. Hi.
With all the finger food that you wil be serving,I feel 2 meatballs at 3 ounces a
piece would be adaquate. How big are your quests, this should help you in choosing the right amount of meatballs(that’s what my mom did when she held big corporation partiesfor my dads employees, some of the men where big and ate alot).If..you are having dessert, and other foods like salad, take that into consideration.Good-luck at your reception.I hope it is a big success!
