Question by kristal: Why are the leaves on the bottom of my tomato plant turning yellow? How often do they need watered?
My plants are in pots on my deck. Sweet 100’s and cherry tomatoes.

lack of air movement on the lower parts,constant dampness…

you could be overwatering; is there good drainage thru your pots?
roots need air & when they are drowned the die, then the plant ddoesn’thave sufficient roots left to support all the top growth, so the first leaves to be sacrificed by the plant are the old lower ones…
but its not uncommon for some other kind of stress to cause those same leaves to yellow, & it ddoesn’toften affect yield much…
the same thing happens when you dont water enough, or if the fertility of the soil is low, or if the plant has ooutgrown the pots its in…you have to figure out what is causing this stress and correct it….
They’re just probably the matured leaves that reach its age. The bottom leaves will turn yellow and die eventually. It’s normal. As long as the younger leaves are healthy and your tomato fruit are healthy, they’ll be fine.
