I plant my tomato seeds around February 14th in a propagator on my bedroom
window sill. This year it has been a very dull and cold March. I should
have potted them a month ago. Normally if there is frost warning I drape
plastic over the pots. There isn’t much point in trying to have outdoor
tomatoes in Ireland. It is interesting to see how American gardeners cope
with the variations in climate. Next month I will be putting them in soil
in greenhouses.

Very Nice! It took me years to realize that planting early is not a good
thing to do, and that waiting for warm soil, gave me healthy plants, and a
huge crop of tomatoes, so this series sure will help others to get this
information without years of mistakes. Great information!

I’ve about 100 Roma Tomato seeds and I want to grow them! I’m in Atlanta
and live in a mostly-shade area with a few small patches of bright sun.
I’ve read 3 different “planting zones” for where I am. I’ve tried
sunflowers from seed grown in pot twice with 0 seedlings. I obviously have
a brown thumb and need some advise. When I was 16 I had 2 decent plants
going but it was already 7+ in high before buying and implanting.

Great series.

I directly sow the seeds 1 inch below the ground after the avg final frost
in a full sun location. They pop up like weeds until the avg first frost.
Last year, I had cherry tomatoes, this year, I’m going to try the big fat
ones. I like to call them “The Tomato Cow.”

My father always collected the seed of some tomatoes of the last season,
then grow them inside and in May sowed them outside. But he had a little
greenhouse so that they had been protected for night frosts at all events.
Thank you for the video….and the memories.

Nice job with your Q&A, so far this year the tomatoes are about 5 inches
tall, planted them 3-15. The seeds were from a plant that popped up on its
own last year, I let the seeds ferment for 2 days in water then dried them,
was suprised on yield %age that came up. Last years plants produced
probably 25 tomatoes per plant. Found out that the roots like to be in the
shade with the rest of the plant in full sun. Bye and thanks again.
