Question by Natalie n: What is the name of a Mexican drink similar to a bloody mary? It starts with a P & does anyone have a recipe?
It was in Cozumel, Mexico. They used an assortment of tomato juice, margarita mix, tequila, grapefruit juice, grenadine and a brown sauce called Jugo (I think) and they added a few other things too.

I have no idea….. I am not sure if I found all the exact ingredients you were looking for. I did find this site with some pretty interesting looking concoctions however, and they might be worth a try. http://www.mexperience.com/bar/tequila.htm

Are you referring to Petroleo?
Petroleo
1-1/2 ounces tequila
1 ounce Mexican lime juice
1 serrano chile halved from top to bottom
Pour the tequila and lime juice into a small glass. Add salt, pepper, Maggi sauce and Worcestershire sauce to taste. Mix ingredients. Add one half of the serrano chile and one or two ice cubes. Use Blanco or Reposado tequila.
Sounds like a SANGRITA:
Sangrita is a tomato juice based drink that is often used as a cocktail mixer or drunk alongside tequila as a chaser. Not to be confused with “sangria,” a fruit and wine concoction, this beverage is a tangy mixture of tomato and orange juices, usually spiked with hot chiles and lime juice. It may sound odd in flavor, but sangrita is the perfect accompaniment to good quality tequila, like an aged añejo or a good reposado. The tequila and sangrita are poured into separate shot glasses and the two are alternately sipped, not chased. First the tequila, then the chilled sangrita. Slowly, one after the other. There are many recipes for sangrita but most contain tomato juice, lime juice, pureed onion, salt, and chili sauce. The drink is popular in the home state of tequila, Jalisco.
FRUITY SANGRITA:
Jugo is Spanish for juice.
Serves about 4
1 cup tomato juice
1 tablespoon grenadine syrup
2 measures of margarita mix
2 shots of tequila (to taste)
Juice of 3 limes
Juice of 2 oranges
Juice of 1 grapefruit
finely minced fresh green chiles (serranos or jalapeños) to taste
Salt to taste
METHOD:
Mix the ingredients in a blender or pitcher. Because the intensity of fresh juices and chiles vary, mix most of the ingredients, then taste and adjust accordingly. Chill well. Serve in shot glasses accompanied by shot glasses of tequila for sipping alternately. Best served with a good quality tequila.

Periodito. Add tomato juice, vodka and a cotton string hanging off of the side.
When I think similar to a Bloody Mary, I come up with Michelada. This is basically a Bloody Mary that uses beer instead of vodka. They are addicting and wonderful!
I don’t know. in spanish Jugo means juice, so it could be a juice of any kind. sorry good luck.
eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alright. I didn’t like the description of the drink. The closest thing to a bloody mary in Mexico, besides a blood mary, is a clamato: bloody mary made of tomato juice with clam flavoring. What you describe might be something invented in Cancún and not known in the rst of Mexico. I live near Mexico City in the center of the country.
What I can tell you about the ingredient called “jugo” is that it is not a juice, as the name implies, but a sauce similar in flavor to soy sauce that many Mexicans use in cocktails. That is precisely what makes me go eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe if they would leave out the tomato juice too.
The brown sauce you mention is Jugo Maggi, a liquid flavor enhancer, which is dark and tastes kind of like soy sauce, saltier of course and with a stronger flavor. You can order it online from Mexgrocer or probably you can find it in the ethnic section of your local supermarket.
The cocktail sounds like a killer, by the way.
A Michelada is similar to a Bloody Mary. You squeeze fresh lime juice in a salted rimmed glass with crushed ice. Add Clamato, black pepper, and a Mexican beer such as Dos Equis, Tecate, or Corona. Garnish with a celery stalk. It is delicious.
