Any green tomato will do for frying!

ANy tomatoe is edible when green. Fried just right.
they are just unripened tomatoes. taste good green too.
Any green tomato will do – yummy.
Tomatoes are green before they turn red. The green tomatoes are good for fried tomatoes or for pickling.
Green tomatoes are just tomatoes that haven’t ripened yet. They’re kinda sour, but they’re great in a lot of food. Finding them can be a bit of a mission, though, since most grocery stores just stock the ripened ones.
they are just plain green tomatoes
Green tomatoes are tomatoes that haven’t ripened all the way. They can be eaten, they just won’t taste ripe.
Green tomatoes are just unripe red tomatoes.
No special tomato there. This is just an unripe tomato people like to fry. I personally will not eat anything which is unripe and that includes green bell peppers which will turn either, yellow, red or even purple when ripe. It usually won’t hurt you any worse than an upset stomach if your system can’t handle it.
They are harder then red because they are unripe tomatoes, so easier to handle, dip in the batter and make crispy after frying.
Red tomatoes contain nutritious phytochemicals and green ones don’t.
That’s why red tomatoes smell good and taste great when home grown and the store bought tomatoes are horrible… because they are picked green, gassed with argon to turn red and have very little nutritional value.
Fried anything is really bad for your cardiovascular system, but fried anything sure tastes great.
Green tomatoes are edible when there green but there not as juicy and good as red ones.
my favorite, fried green tomatoes. all tomatoes are green at first then turn red as they ripen. get them when they are still firm and green, no red or soft tomatoes. slice them, dip them in flour mixed with pepper and salt added, then fry in a few spoons of hot oil, turning when they get browned, and call me!
Green tomatoes are just what it sounds like. They are any tomato which has not turned red. Batter them and fry them in a pan.
Good old dish from down in the hills. In the fall when the frost hits it is a way to use up all the tomatoes still on the vine. Pick em green and fry em up. In slices!!!!
yes green tomatoes are edible. but they are nasty if not cooked. red tomatoes get real mushy and fall apart if you cook them. the only way i have ever had green tomatoes was fried.
no special tomatoes, just pick them while they are green. cut them into slices and batter them in flour. if you want a thick crust mix egg and flour into a paste dip them in that then coat with dry flour and fry on med high heat in oil. they are a common meal where im from in the south.
I love this question.
Yes dear tomatoes are green before they become ripe to juicy red. The green tomatoes are still firm and hold together for frying after being breaded in cornmeal. (a must for green tomatoes). Some folks like to sprinkle a dash of sugar on them just before frying. They are good. You should try them.
Green tomatoes are really just that – green tomatoes The best to use are the large green tomatoes. Green tomatoes can also be used to make relish. The fried green tomatoes I have seen were prepared like fried eggplant, batter dipped, but they could probably also be breaded.
They are both. Fried green tomatoes are made using a tomato that is full grown but has not ripened. You want it at this stage so that it stays somewhat firm as you fry it. There are also varieties of heirloom tomatoes that are green – green zebra being one of my favorites. Here is a link to see some other types of green tomatoes. Also tomatoescan be yellow, orange, pink, white and even purple! Cherokee Purples are another favorite!
FRIED GREEN TOMATOES
2 or 3 green tomatoes, sliced 1/4 inch thick

Oil for frying
Roll green tomato slices in flour. Salt and pepper and fry on both sides in oil until brown on both sides. Serve immediately.
it is eatable
they are really green and really tomatoes, and really delish!
I HAVE FOUND THAT ANY TYPE OF GREEN TOMATO WORKS FOR FRYING, AND HERE IS ANOTHER INTERESTING USE FOR GREEN TOMATOES[GREEN TOMATOE PIE] FIRST CLEAN AND SLICE ABOUT TWO CUPS OF TOMATOES AND BOIL TILL TENDER, DRAIN EXCESS LIQUID, IN A SEPERATE BOWL COMBINE TOMATOS, 1/2 CUP SUGAR, 2 TBS. BROWN SUAR, AND 2 TSP OF CINNIMON. ADD TO UNCOOKED PIE CRUST AND COVER TOP WITH CRUST. BAKE AT 375 DEGREES FOR APPROXIMATLY 35 MIN. IF YOU DONT TELL ANYONE THAT IT IS TOMATOES THEY WILL THINK THAT IT IS APPLE PIE. ENJOY
Green tomatoes are unripe tomatoes.
yes they are edible and tasty.
Here in the mountain states we have a hard time getting our large tomatoes to turn red cause of the shorter growing time.we usually have to bring them in to ripen on the window ledge.so my point is we have lots of green tomatoes and we cut em thick, flour and fry em up.yummy!
they are so yummy that down south they purposely pick em early to eat, when i lived in tennesee i could find them in the grocery store, but not here. so fried green tomatoes are a once a year treat we have for awhile at the end of summer.

Just plain tomatoes but they havent turned red. I think they used the unripened tomatoes when the frost of winter ended the growing season. And fried green tomatoes are delicious. To me they sort of taste like oysters.
