Question by Nika: Can you make tomato sauce by pureeing diced or stewed tomatoes?
I’m out of tomato sauce, which is what i usually make my marinara out of but i only have canned diced tomatoes and canned stewed tomatoes, can i just puree those and use that in place of the tomato sauce in my recipe?
No, i dont have any tomato pasta, but i think i will just puree them then let them simmer down to thicken.

Yes you can, but you must put them through the food processor to puree them.

  26. do you have tomato paste as well?

  27. But of course!!!!! Anytime I am making sauce I use diced, pureed, or stewed. I think the flavor is much better actually.

  28. Yes, or just simmer them you know olive oil, onion, fresh garlic, and any other veggie, when the tomatoes have simmered long enough just mash up with a spatula spoon. I do this with fresh tomatoes or whole canned. Pureeing will be good too, but after pureeing it might be a little soupy let simmer till thickens a bit.

  29. I even think that is better & it may be a little thicker but that is okay.

  30. I used canned tomatoes to start and then take my whisk and kinda’ pound them down in the pot to break apart. Then I add diced fresh tomatoes minus their seeds and other ingredients and let it simmer for a loooooooong while. It’s the best. It’s soooooooooo fresh! Married to an Italian Stallion and so I’m Italian by injection =O (I’m Greek) =) But LOOOOOOOOVE to cook all foods of ethnic nature!!!!
