Question by I luv trees: Should you cut off the top of a tomato plant to make it bushier?
I have tomato plants growing. They are Sweet 100. One plant is already nine feet tall, the others around six. Was I supposed to cut the top off to make them bushier instead of taller? Thety all have several flowers on each plant and have started to produce fruit. I live near Boston, MA in zone 5b. Thank you.

What do you think? Answer below!
I’m a botanic, and this position is very bad for the plant, tomatoes plant
tend to grow upwards to get sun light, and look at the tiny space where the
earth is put, the plant’s root cant attach itself very well to it, and has
no space for it to grow and expand, so if the root dont grow, the plant
dies by lack of nutrition…
MMM!
i can just imagine that plant falling down and making a huge mess
Ermm, tomato plants go few meters in height. I should know, I have them.
So, why making things easier when we could further complicate them right?
No, not for me! Mine looked nothing like this. I got a total of 6 tomatoes
on two separate plants and they didn’t even get this full. Yes, I used good
potting soil meant for growing vegetables and gave them a good watering
every other day and waited for my tomatoes…..”sob” what a disappointment.
You really, really need to water the container every day if you have any
hope of making this method work.
Why don’t you just go to the store and buy tomatoes?
tomato is not tht expensive
oh ya you can make this out of a regular hanging pot that has a hole in the
bottom it saves money and looks less retarded
My neighbor has two of these. My mother and I plant at least one tomato
plant a year… the old fashioned way. My neighbor’s tomatoes look
horrible. He’s hardly gotten any worth eating, and his plants are half
withered and dead. Which isn’t aided by the fact that he put them out
around mid April (the ad says you can put them out earlier) and they wound
up dealing with several frosts and a freeze. And he didn’t get any tomatoes
before we did. 30lbs my butt. Our’s are doing great though.
Who is that redhead at 0:50?
back-breaking work?
i see a lot of these around
I dislike this kind of voice over. So fake… so very, very fake.
At 0.25 to 0.28 she’s doing at creepy smile. Im going to do that while
doing regular activities tomorrow to freak out my neighbors. Thumbs up if
you think It would be funny
Yes, you can just nip it or squeeze the tip just above where the side branches come out,
How about green tomato pie on the idea. Fertilizer your plants some times. Good luck on the idea too.
Yes snip the tops off and some side shoots that have no flowers on. pinch off some of the bottom shoots also so the growth can go into the tomato x
Yes, you can cut the top of a tomato off to make it bushier.
