Question by krubee17: Can I use Vegetable broth in subsitute for Vegetable stock?
I got this recipe book for Christmas and it has a recipe for Tomato Basil Soup. I’m going to make it with my grandma today. The recipe calls for Vegetable stock and I go to the store and they don’t have any. I was wondering if I could buy Vegetable broth? Would the soup still taste the same?

  1. Wow

  2. Chick with black hair is annoying!! Closed video after her first sentence

  3. Best yet…lol.

  4. yes you can. But unlike the first answerer said broth is NOT the same thing as stock. Stock is defiantly richer and is made with herbs and vegetables, but you’ll be fine with the broth

  5. Absolutely the same thing. And if you can’t find any at the store you can make your own. Very easy. I don’t even cut up the veggies much..just maybe in half.

  6. Sure, the broth will work when you can’t find stock. Stock tends to have a little stronger of a flavor than broth, but of all the stocks, vegetable stock and broth are the most similar. Chicken and beef stock tends to be made more from bony parts, whereas the broth is made more out of meat. The stock tends to have a fuller mouth feel and richer flavor, due to the gelatin released by long-simmering bones. However, with vegetable stock, there are no bones and meat involved, so usually the difference in flavor is very minimal. Hope all this helps and your soup turns out great!

  7. A basic veggie stock is just this: boiled carrots, onions, celery, salt and Pepper and a bay leaf….cut up and boiled for about an 1 1/2 hours and strained of the veggies. Can saute the veggies in oil first, but it isn’t necessary.

  8. you are all but the same thing.

  9. I agree with the others. However, I would add this. If the recipe calls for water in addition to the vegetable stock, omit the water and use the vegetable broth instead. That way the flavor of the veggie broth won’t be diluted.
